Qualifications
Only Certified Evaluators may perform sexual offender
(psychosexual) evaluations for the courts. A Central Roster of Certified
Evaluators will provide the names and business addresses of the approved
evaluators.
Some of the evaluator qualifications are as follows:
Educational and Professional Qualifications
- An Idaho-licensed psychiatrist; or
- An Idaho-licensed masters or doctoral level psychologist,
social worker, counselor or marriage/family therapist
Specialized Training
- Must have attended 200 hours of formal conferences,
symposia, or seminars related to the treatment and evaluation of
adult sexual offenders. A list of
the qualifying scope of training is indicated in the SOCB
administrative rules or may be requested from the SOCB.
Experience Qualifications
- At least 2000 hours of adult sexual offender treatment
and evaluation experience within the preceding ten years including:
- At least 250 hours of adult sexual offender
evaluation experience; and
- At least 250 hours of adult sexual offender
treatment experience.
Understanding
- Should have a thorough understanding and a broad
knowledge of sexuality in the general population.
- Should also have a good understanding of basic
theories and typologies of sexual offenders and sexual assault
victims.
Continuing Education Requirement
- Attendance at 40 hours of formal conferences, symposia,
or seminars related to the treatment and evaluation of adult sexual
offenders within the preceding two years is required to maintain
certification.
- Up to 10 of these hours may be obtained from on-line
educational sources during a two year period.
